Embrace Literature At “Literally In A Day At The Hive”

The Hive opens its doors to the Worcestershire Literary Festival on Saturday 14th April 2012 for a full day of spoken word performances, talks and workshops.

The Hive, Worcester’s newest iconic building, is set to come alive for a second time on Saturday 14th April 2012 where it will be open to the public from 12pm til 7pm for a spoken word, poetry and performance extravaganza.

“Literally In A Day at The Hive” is part of a number of preview events which will see members of the public invited into level one of the building as it nears completion, ahead of the official opening in July.

This family-friendly free event offers spoken word performances, talks, poetry performances, workshops and music throughout the day.  Highlights include performances by Theo Theobald, Worcestershire’s first ever Poet Laureate, a talk by David Morrison from Worcester Cathedral about the history of the Cathedral Library, a showcase performance by young poets,  readings by members of the Worcester & Malvern Writers’ Circles and children’s storytelling sessions.

There will also be activities for children including storybook creation, balloons, magic tricks and a poetry workshop, as well as ad hoc readings and performances in the main atrium of The Hive, together with displays from local organisations such as the Worcester Writers’ Circle, Discover History, the Worcester Tourism Association and more.

Lisa Ventura, Director of the Worcestershire Literary Festival said: “Literally In A Day will be a chance for the whole community to come together and embrace literature, poetry and spoken word at this exciting second preview event at The Hive, which we hope will become the festival’s focal point when it is open later this year.”

Steve Wilson, County Arts Officer at Worcestershire County Council said: “
After a spectacular first sneak preview event last month, The Hive will throw open its doors for the second time to the public for this exciting day of literature taster events. We are delighted to have the Literary Festival at The Hive on what I am sure will be another wonderful day for Worcestershire. These pre-opening events are showcasing what an iconic, exciting venue The Hive is for the county."

Dr Judith Keene, Assistant Director of Information and Learning Services at the University of Worcester added: “The Hive is an imaginative development that strengthens the University’s links with the community and it’s exciting to see events like the Worcestershire Literary Festival bringing this inspirational space to life."
