Preparations build for The Hive's first sneak preview event

Pupils from schools in Redditch, Bewdley, Malvern, Evesham, Bromsgrove and Worcester are involved in the first public sneak preview event inside Worcestershire's new landmark library and history centre.

The Hive, Europe's first public and university library, will temporarily throw open its doors to the public for a dance, theatre and arts extravaganza, on level one of the building, ahead of the official opening in July.

12 Moves at The Hive is the first of a number of preview events that will see members of the community invited into the building as it nears completion.

12 Moves at The Hive has connected schools and museums to work creatively together to design and build an installation which will become part of a spectacular promenade performance. The performance will lead the audience through a winter fairytale journey of extraordinary collections and mystical creatures with an afternoon of performances, exhibitions and activities.

The creative juices of county youngsters flowed with the help of local professional artists to construct and animate six installations which will be unveiled in the dramatic promenade performances on Saturday 24th March. These promenade pieces alongside other art exhibitions and performances will form a one off day of events that is free and suitable for all the family. The live performances programme is repeated at 1pm, 2.15pm, 3.30pm and 4.45pm, so you can choose when to attend. Please be aware that a short waiting time might be possible if level one of The Hive becomes overcrowded.

12 Moves at The Hive is part of a full day celebrating 12 Moves, the two-year project aiming to get Worcestershire dancing, produced by Dancefest. This day of events in Worcester will bring the City alive with a day of dance and a night-time spectacular.

Worcester will be animated with dancers throughout the morning, showcasing the best of the City’s talent. During the afternoon The Hive hosts an afternoon of activities with music, promenade performances, exhibitions, film, interactive projections, Worcestershire's Museum on the Move and the weird and wonderful Cabinet of Curious Collectables. As night falls, 12 Moves: After Dark transforms the grand Croft Road railway arches into a gigantic cinema screen to create a mysterious Victorian dance fairytale.

Steve Wilson, County Arts Officer at Worcestershire County Council said "12 Moves at The Hive will bring the whole community together for an afternoon of arts, dance and theatre at this very exciting first public preview event which is definitely not be one to be missed."

Be there, join in and be part of something amazing. On Saturday 24th March The Hive will be buzzing when level one opens for this once in a life time afternoon; 12 Moves at The Hive.

Anne Hannaford, Director of Information and Learning Services at the University of Worcester added: “We are really delighted to be bringing so many schoolchildren into the building for this event. Once open, our aim is to have at least one school visit every day at The Hive.”
